9:00 a.m. – 10:45 p.m.
Changes Coming to TDF
Moderator: Allan Lassiter, Waste Tire Program Manager, VA DEQ
Speakers:
Terry Gray, President, TAG Resource Recovery
Larry McDorman, President, Tire Energy Corp.
Jon Howley, ISPCO Steel
Michael Blumenthal, RMA Vice President, Environment and Resource Recovery

Tire-derived fuel (TDF) is the most established market with tried-and true technologies. This session will discuss a new report developed through EPA’s Resource Conservation Challenge in conjunction with
industry and government partners that identifies the scope of the TDF market, the ongoing challenges for TDF, and some new directions. The first dedicated tire combustor in 15 years is operational in Martinsville, Virginia. While not technically TDF, steel-making electric arc furnaces (EAFs) may offer many new opportunities. Hear how innovative and untried partnerships (and no government funds) led to these advances. Problems may be looming for all of TDF, however, as a U.S. Court of Appeals recently vacated EPA rules dealing with burning “solid wastes,” such as TDF. Hear the latest status and possible impacts.

11:00 a.m. – 12:15 a.m.
The Value of Partnerships

Moderator: Dick Gust, President, Lakin Environmental Industries, TRRAC
Speaker: Paul Fiore, TIA Director of Government & Business Relations

Used tires have been in the news again and there is a great deal of misinformation out there. Used tire processors, wholesalers and tire dealers will want to attend this timely workshop to hear an informativ
discussion of the used tire controversy. And as an added benefit TIA’s Used Tire Task Force members will be in the audience to field questions about TIA’s proposed Best Practices. TIA’s Director of Government Affairs Paul Fiore will also present a brief update on legislative and regulatory initiatives in play for 2008.

12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Recycling Networking Luncheon

Guest Speaker: Jan Rae Clark, Waste Tire Program Manager, Florida DEP (invited)

1:45 p.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Market Development in the States: The Benefits of Strategic Partnerships

Moderator: David Forrester, Vice President Crumb Operations, Liberty Tire Recycling, TRRAC
Speakers: Monte Niemi, President, First State Tire Recycling, TRRAC
Tim Flanigan, Wright Asphalt
Tiffany Hughes, Marketing Consultant, TRH Marketing

This session will focus on tire recycling success stories that demonstrate how partnerships with suppliers, communities and government agencies are helping tire recyclers develop markets or establish an end-use application for their tire-derived materials. The panel will discuss the development of a septic drainage/civil
engineering market for tire chips in Minnesota and will explore the new and innovative ways asphalt rubber and recycled rubber products are being used in road and transportation projects.

3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Building An Industry Through Alliance and Partnerships

Moderator: Denise Kennedy, President, DK Enterprises, TRRAC
Speakers:
Terry Harris, President, Rubber Wholesalers
Erle Miles, President, Testing Services, Inc.
Bill Robbins, President, RubberForm Recycled Products
Greg Graham, President, Modular Rubber Drains, Inc.
David Crisp, Lehigh Technologies, Inc.

The tire recycling industry is showing signs of maturity. One sure sign is the confidence manufacturers and designers have shown in seeking out and using recycled rubber in the manufacture of their products. This confidence is being driven by processors, manufacturers and end users and is evidenced in the growing number of local, regional and national alliances and partnerships being forged. Recycled rubber products manufacturers – with divergent markets – will tell you how the relationships they engendered with processors, product designers, and state and local officials paved the way in establishing their manufacturing business. These companies will also show you how they reached beyond the traditional to get their products qualified, tested and introduced to the market on a national scale.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2007

Tire Recycling Facility Tour* – Wheelabrator Ridge Energy, Inc.

Tire and rubber recyclers and industry professionals from all segments of the tire industry will have the opportunity to visit the Wheelabrator Ridge Energy, Inc. generation station – a full scale tire derived fuel
(TDF) processing and energy production facility. This one-of-a-kind U.S. facility demonstrates the cost-saving benefits of TDF and its importance in energy production and environmental compliance.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Networking Luncheon

1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Material Testing Demonstration
The Tire and Rubber Recycling Advisory Council (TRRAC) has planned a series of demonstrations that will include testing loose fill surfacing and pour-in-place and loose fill for playground material and artificial sport turf. Tom Whittier, Totturf by Robertson Industries, Inc., will demonstrate how to use the TRIAX2000 and “A” Missile in the field prior to sending material to a testing lab for official certification. Tom will also provide an overview of some of the issues related to standards and specifications. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to see not only how the tests are conducted, but to understand what testing professionals look for in a product to meet safety and environmental requirements.
