OSHA Compliance Training Program

According to OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.177, any employee that handles truck tires and wheels must receive safety training and demonstrate their ability to perform the necessary tasks. TIA’s Fleet Tire Service OSHA Compliance Training Program is designed to meet the minimum federal training requirements for both new hires and experienced employees in need of documented training.

The Program consists of the Fleet Tire Service Instructor’s Guide, complete with lesson plans and a video, which can be used as often as needed. Each Workbook comes with Accuride’s Wheel/Rim Safety and Service Manual, as well as a blank answer sheet and return envelope for use with the 40-question exam at the back of the Workbook. TIA’s Fleet Tire Service OSHA Compliance Training Program includes a VHS, DVD, Instructor’s Guide complete with lesson plans, and one Student Workbook.

This Program is centered on five TIA and industry videos compiled on one tape. The first two videos describe the step-by-step procedures and safety guidelines for demounting, mounting and inflating both single- and multi-piece tire and rim assemblies. TIA produced the videos in cooperation with the tool manufacturers, so students receive the most technically accurate and up-to-date practices using tools and equipment commonly found in the field. The third video focuses specifically on inspection procedures for identifying potential zipper ruptures in steel cord radial medium and light truck tires. The final two videos address disc wheel and demountable rim service, maintenance and inspection procedures, respectively.

TIA’s Fleet Tire Service Student Workbook meets the minimum requirements for training established by OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.177 and serves as the cornerstone of the Program. In addition to the OSHA Standard and Rim Matching/Demount-Mount Charts, the Student Workbook includes the step-by-step procedures for demounting, mounting and inflating single- and multi-piece tire and rim assemblies. With the Rubber Manufacturers Association inspection procedures for identifying potential zipper ruptures and truck wheel fastener torque specifications, the Student Workbook is an important training aid that remains a valuable reference following the instruction.

The Student Workbook contains pretests for each module, as well as the Final Exam, and includes a copy of Accuride’s Wheel/Rim Safety and Service Manual. The last page contains the OSHA Skills Demonstration Form and is perforated so that it can be returned to TIA with the separate Final Exam answer sheet. Each student that purchases a Workbook, returns the Skills Demonstration Form and the answer sheet, and successfully completes the Exam with a minimum score of 70 percent receives a TIA Certificate of Completion.
