Given the numerous risk factors present in some tire businesses,
such as tire inflation, the use of heavy power equipment and the
presence of corrosive fluids and high decibel noise levels, owners
and operators must take the necessary steps to ensure that safety
is job one in the workplace. The following are several websites
that offer educational and training information as well as programs
to help businesses comply with established workplace safety guidelines.
www.osha.gov
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the
governing body for workplace safety and health standards, it is
a primary source for information related to regulations and compliance,
standards, training and consultation.
DOT Auto Safety Hotline
The DOT Auto Safety Hotline was created in 1975 by NHTSA. The Hotline was designed to gather information about alleged safety problems in motor vehicles and equipment. Today the Hotline is the agency's "Single Point of Contact" providing callers with motor vehicle safety information, Child Safety Seat material, and air bag information. The Hotline remains the agency's single most important resource for gathering information about vehicle safety defects. All of these services are available by mail, fax, or through the Internet at www.nhtsa.dot.gov/hotline. The Hotline can be dialed toll free at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
www.cimstireregistration.com
This site allows you to register tires and contains information
on tire registration. The sites three main sections focus
on information important for tire consumers, tire dealers and tire
manufacturer/brand owners. Dealers are required by Federal Law to
offer registration to all tire customers. Registering tires allows
the manufacturer to contact the buyer in the case of a recall. The
law also stipulates that this information can be used for recall
purposes only. Whether you are a tire consumer, tire dealer, tire
manufacturer or brand owner, it is important that you understand
your rights and responsibilities regarding tire registration, and
this site provides the information to stay ahead of the pack.
www.greentruck.com

with the Transportation Environmental Resource Center. Providing
timely and reliable information about environmental compliance requirements,
this site is designed to help persons engaged in automotive service,

For over 30 years the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has
been a leader in finding out what does and doesnt work to
prevent motor vehicle crashes and reduce injuries in crashes that
occur. The Institute's research focuses on countermeasures aimed
at all three factors in motor vehicle crashes (human, vehicular
and environmental) and on interventions that can occur before, during
and after crashes to reduce losses. In 1992, the Vehicle Research
Center (VRC) was opened. This Center, which includes a state-of-the-art
crash test facility, is the focus of most of the Institute's vehicle-related
research. The Institute's affiliate organization, the Highway Loss
Data Institute, gathers, processes and publishes data on the ways
in which insurance losses vary among different kinds of vehicles.
Much of the Institutes important research and information
is available through the website. This includes statistics, reports,
publications, downloadable PDFs, news releases, videos, DVDs,
numerous research topics, state law facts, extensive F&Qs and
vehicle safety ratings.
