TIA ANNOUNCES CHAIRMAN OF THE STATE EXECUTIVES

Bowie, MD – (January 13, 2006) The Tire Industry Association (TIA) today announced that John Buettner, executive director for the Indiana/Illinois Tire Dealers Association was elected as chairman of the TIA state executive directors for 2006. In this role Buettner will serve as the primary contact between the TIA state executive directors and TIA regarding meetings, program content and speakers.

Buettner has been in the tire industry for over 40 years. He began his career in the early 60’s in the tire, automotive and retread industry with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Throughout his career, he has been involved with vocational and technical education, wholesale, commercial and retail tire/automotive sales, and for five years served as the vice president and general manager for Tire Retreading Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tire Distributors of Virginia.

In 1983, Buettner joined the National Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association (NTDRA) staff as a technical retread field consultant for the Northeast United States. In 1985, he was appointed associate director of retread and technical services for NTDRA.

In 1992 Buettner was appointed director of the Tire Retreading Institute, the retread arm of NTDRA and in 1997 he became the vice president for Training and Technical Services for the Tire Association of North America (TANA). During this time Buettner relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana and also took on the management role of executive director of the Indiana Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association.

In 2001 Buettner became vice president of Tire Services for TANA and retained that position when TANA and the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) merged in 2002. He then also took over management of the Illinois State Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association as executive vice president.

Buettner has served on the TRIB Board of Directors and has been past chairman for RIGAC as well as liaison with RMA, TRMG and various other industry groups.

Today Buettner continues to develop the TIA Off-the-Road (OTR) Conference program and sell conference sponsorships as a consultant for TIA.

“We believe John will do an excellent job with his additional responsibility as chairman,” said TIA Executive Vice President, Roy Littlefield.  “His experience speaks for itself.”

TIA is an international association representing all segments of the tire industry, including those that manufacture, repair, recycle, sell, service or use new or retreaded tires, and also those suppliers or individuals who furnish equipment, material or services to the industry. The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has a history that spans more than 80 years and includes several name changes. Originally known as the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (NTDRA), the organization gave birth over the years to the American Retreaders Association (ARA) and the Tire Association of North America (TANA).  ARA changed its name to the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) and merged with TANA in 2002 to form the current Tire Industry Association (TIA), which now represents every interest in the tire industry.
