TIA’s 1st Commercial Tire, Retread & Recycling Conference

Bowie, MD – (March 16, 2007) The Tire Industry Association (TIA) announced the results of their first Commercial Tire, Retread & Recycling Conference (CTRRC), February 6-8, 2007, in Tampa, Florida. This meeting was held in conjunction with the Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) of the American Trucking Association (ATA). The CTRRC had 240 registered attendees, including 145 from the commercial/retread market and 95 recyclers who attended the three-day conference and participated in the workshops and recycling tour.  Education topics ranged from risk management to retreading the new ultra low-profile wide-base tires.

“We were very pleased with the attendance and feedback we received on the first CTRR conference,” remarked TIA President Paul Hyatt. “The attendees felt the education and the networking opportunities were very valuable and were interested in TIA continuing to hold this type of conference.”

Attendees of the CTRRC had the opportunity to participate in TMC’s exhibition that was co-located at the Tampa Convention Center. This opened up even greater networking opportunities for attendees of both shows.

“I was very proud to be a part of what may become an annual conference for TIA,” said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield. “With such a positive response from our members on this conference, we are making arrangements to meet with ATA to discuss our future plans.”

TIA is an international association representing all segments of the tire industry, including those that manufacture, repair, recycle, sell, service or use new or retreaded tires, and also those suppliers or individuals who furnish equipment, material or services to the industry. The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has a history that spans more than 80 years and includes several name changes. Originally known as the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (NTDRA), the organization gave birth over the years to the American Retreaders Association (ARA) and the Tire Association of North America (TANA).  ARA changed its name to the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) and merged with TANA in 2002 to form the current Tire Industry Association (TIA), which now represents every interest in the tire industry.
