TIA Announces World Tire Expo Statistics

BOWIE, Maryland – April 27, 2005, The Tire Industry Association (TIA) announced the attendance figures for the recently completed World Tire Expo (WTE) in Louisville, Kentucky. According to ConvExx, the show management company, a total of 1541 people registered for WTE including buyers/others and exhibitors.  The breakdown between buyers and exhibitors was 952 buyers/others and 589 exhibitors.  Attendees came from around the world to TIA’s World Tire Expo with representatives from 27 countries.

At this year’s WTE, TIA included for the first time, a Commercial Tire Executive Summit.  There were 105 people who registered for this inaugural event.

WTE had 119 exhibiting companies with over 24,000 square feet of exhibit space.  More than 30% of the exhibitors displayed tire and rubber recycling products and equipment.

"The trade show floor had a lot of activity this year,” said Dick Gust, TIA President.  “The majority of exhibitors I spoke to said the buyers were highly qualified and interested in purchasing.  The seminars and workshops were very well attended this year.  There was standing room only in several meeting rooms.  We were also very pleased with the positive feedback we received on the first Commerical Tire Executive Summit.  Several attendees said they wished the Summit schedule was longer.”

“The positive feedback we received on the WTE education has made us take a closer look at the future format of WTE,” stated Dick Gust.  “We are considering several options including a change to a format that would resemble TIA’s annual Off-the-Road Tire Conference.”

“The TIA Board of Directors discussed the future of WTE at length during their meeting in Louisville,” said Roy Littlefield, TIA Executive Vice President.  “No decision was made at the conclusion of the meeting.  Additional feedback will be collected regarding the Expo and a decision will be made at a later date.”

TIA is an international association representing all segments of the tire industry, including those that manufacture, repair, recycle, sell, service or use new or retreaded tires, and also those suppliers or individuals who furnish equipment, material or services to the industry. The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has a history that spans more than 80 years and includes several name changes. Originally known as the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (NTDRA), the organization gave birth over the years to the American Retreaders Association (ARA) and the Tire Association of North America (TANA).  ARA changed its name to the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) and merged with TANA in 2002 to form the current Tire Industry Association (TIA), which now represents every interest in the tire industry.
