Dan Beach Elected to TIA Secretary Position

Bowie, MD (May 26, 2005) – The Tire Industry Association (TIA) today announced that Dan Beach, President and CEO of the Tire Alliance Groupe (TAG) has been elected to the position of Secretary. The election took place on Friday, April 22nd, during the TIA Board of Directors meeting held in Louisville, Kentucky.  Mr. Beach begins his position as Secretary on November 1, 2005.  The Secretary position proceeds through the officers’ chairs that place him in line for the one-year Presidential term from November 2008 through October 2009.

“We are extremely pleased to have Dan fill the position of Secretary,” said Dick Gust, TIA President. “I believe we will all greatly benefit from the experience Dan brings to the position as well as his strong commitment to the tire industry.”

Mr. Beach started his life long career in the tire industry when he joined Goodyear International Corporation (GIC) in 1968 after earning his MBA in Foreign Trade from Thunderbird School of International Management. He held numerous sales posts with GIC and while serving as the Sales Director of Sweden in 1976, he ended his tenure with GIC to return to the United States and pursue his personal goal of starting his own retail business.

In 1977, Beach opened his first Dob’s Tire & Auto Center in Ventura, California.  Over the next 16 years, he grew Dob’s into a major regional retailer operating 62 stores and 3 wholesale tire centers in five states.  He was a member of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Dealer Council for over five years during this time.  In October of 1993, Mr. Beach successfully merged his company with the Compton, California based RPJ Tire Company (Parnelli Jones) and operated 96 retail locations and 6 wholesale tire centers in six states.  He sold his interest in March of 1996.

In May of the same year, he joined TAG as the President and CEO.  During his career there, he has been instrumental in growing TAG into one of the largest buying groups in North America.  TAG now represents over 500 independent tire

businesses operating over 1,750 retail locations throughout all 50 states, Canada and parts of Mexico.  In November 2003, Beach began his term on the TIA Board of Directors where he continues to serve today.

“I am greatly honored by the vote of confidence from my peers,” said Beach.  “TIA gives all of us the opportunity to work towards the betterment of our industry in order to benefit the most important constituency, our customers."

TIA is an international association representing all segments of the tire industry, including those that manufacture, repair, recycle, sell, service or use new or retreaded tires, and also those suppliers or individuals who furnish equipment, material or services to the industry. The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has a history that spans more than 80 years and includes several name changes. Originally known as the National Tire Dealers & Retreaders Association (NTDRA), the organization gave birth over the years to the American Retreaders Association (ARA) and the Tire Association of North America (TANA).  ARA changed its name to the International Tire & Rubber Association (ITRA) and merged with TANA in 2002 to form the current Tire Industry Association (TIA), which now represents every interest in the tire industry.
