Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB)
www.retread.org/Guide
We’ve written about the Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) in this column before, but there is a specific feature we want to bring to the attention of Fleet and Retread Members. Members of TRIB are listed in their buyers guide. This guide contains the names of TRIB Member retreaders and tire dealers throughout the U.S., Canadian provinces, and countries worldwide. Each listing also includes the complete street address, telephone number, and the type of tire retreaded by the dealer. Anyone can search the guide, but only members will be listed in it. If you are not familiar with the Buyer’s Guide, please check it out. Considering the number of fleet shows that TRIB’s managing director Harvey Brodsky attends, and the fleet traffic they receive on TRIB’s website, it makes sense to join TRIB just to be listed in the Buyers Guide!

Retreading Statistics (Modern Tire Dealer’s website)
http://www.moderntiredealer.com/t_pop_pdf.cfm?link= research/retreading1.pdf
Every year Modern Tire Dealer compiles countless statistics regarding many aspects of our industry, including everything from sales and distribution, to plant capacity. Of particular interest to our Retread Members will be the Retread Statistics. On this PDF file (that you can download onto your computer) you can see valuable information such as price, market share, and the number of plants. A valuable resource to our Retread Members and everyone else!
DOT Retread Search (NHTSA’s website)
www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/manufacture/
This is the website to search for DOT retread codes. Sometimes fleet customers will present a retread for adjustment that is not the responsibility of that particular retreader. Every retread has a three letter DOT code that identifies the plant. This website allows you to enter the three letter code and to get the name and contact info so the customer can submit the tire to them for consideration. It’s a great customer service tool! Just fill out the form and the information pops up. There is also the option to even download the actual database files from NHTSA’s FTP page.
