When replacing tires, do you know which tires are best for maximum performance and safety? If purchasing just two tires for a passenger car, should the new tires go on the front axle or the rear axle?
The Tire Industry Association (TIA), one of the leading authorities on tires and tire training, has teamed up with Bridgestone Americas business units Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations (BATO) and Bridgestone Retail Operations, LLC. (BSRO) to help consumers answer these and many other tire-related questions in a brief seven-minute video. Launched in support of April’s National Car Care Month, consumers may access the free video by visiting the TIA Web site (www.tireindustry.org), BATO’s Web site (www.tiresafety.com), and BSRO’s Web site (www.FirestoneCompleteAutoCare.com).
The new TPMS Relearn Chart has been released and is available for purchase. The Chart covers multiple aspects of TPMS service including when the relearn procedure is necessary (i.e. after pressure adjustment, tire rotation, or replacement), the part numbers for sensors and seal kits from the OEM, Schrader, Dill and Continental/Siemens, torque specs for the hex nuts, torx bolts and banded sensors, as well as the lug nut torque for all makes and models up to 2008. But the highlight of the chart is the comprehensive list of relearn summaries for all makes and models, foreign and domestic.

TIAs new training and certification program is directed to technicians working in a typical retail tire dealership. This innovative web-based training for new hires and experienced tire service technicians is unprecedented in the industry. The Certified ATS Instructor seminar is divided into 3-day and 4-day classes.
In the event of an accident, the best protection for a tire dealer is documented proof of training for the technician who performed the service. Basic ATS is designed to meet that need for the more than 100,000 passenger and light truck tire service technicians working in more than 40,000 retail dealerships in North America alone.

COMMERCIAL TIRE SERVICE (CTS)
More than 20,000 technicians currently have the advantage of the most comprehensive training and certification program in the industry. TIAs CTS Technician Program represents the first step in changing the image of the truck tire and wheel service industry. Companies that choose to invest in education send an important message to their customers and their employees by making safety a top priority. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Regulation 29 CFR 1910.177, requires any employee that handles truck tires and wheels must receive safety training and demonstrate their ability to perform the necessary tasks. By focusing on OSHA Regulations, manufacturer guidelines and industry recommended practices, TIA can deliver accurate technical information to the field, where its needed most.

Basic Commercial Tire Service (CTS-200) TIAs Basic Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Training and Certificate Program is designed to meet the minimum federal training requirements for both new hires and experienced employees in need of documented training.
The Basic CTS Program is centered on five TIA and industry videos contained on one VHS tape. The first two videos describe the step-by-step procedures and safety guidelines for demounting, mounting and inflating both single- and multi-piece tire and rim assemblies. TIA produced the videos in cooperation with the tool manufacturers, so students receive the most technically accurate and up-to-date practices using tools and equipment commonly found in the field. The third video focuses specifically on inspection procedures for identifying potential zipper ruptures in steel cord radial medium and light truck tires. The final two videos address disc wheel and demountable rim service, maintenance and inspection procedures, respectively.
In addition to the VHS tape, TIAs Basic CTS Program includes an Instructors Guide with complete lesson plans and answers to the pretests. The Instructors Guide corresponds directly with the Student Workbook (CTSSB-200, sold separately) and the VHS tape, so it remains an important reference following the training.
CTS Recertification CTS Certification is valid for two years, at which time you will receive notification from TIA that it is time to recertify.
