Three Scholars Honored by Michelin and TIA

Bowie, Md. - Michelin North America and the Tire Industry Association (TIA) are pleased to announce the recipients of the Michelin/TIA Scholarship Award for the 2015-2016 academic school year. This year, three students were selected for their academic and extracurricular achievements.

A total of $6,250 was awarded to the three students – Sydney Burgess of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Levi Lewis of Greencastle, Ind. and Remmy Rocha of Gothenburg, Neb. -- and will go toward their college education.

“With the rising cost of higher education, the importance of this scholarship program continues to grow. TIA is pleased to work alongside Michelin again this year to sponsor this initiative,” said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000 to either part-time employees or dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member tire dealers. Since inception, more than $250,000 has been awarded to 52 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools. Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.

Sydney Burgess graduated from Mohave High School and is the daughter of Kelly Burgess of Superior Tire in Bullhead City, Ariz. She attends Brigham Young University and is studying business management.

Levi Lewis graduated from Greencastle High School. He is the son of David Lewis of The Tire Rack in South Bend, Ind. Levi is studying French and business at Indiana University and hopes to have a career in international business.

Remmy Rocha graduated from Gothenburg High School and attends Creighton University. He is majoring in biochemistry and plans to go to medical school and become an orthopedic surgeon. He is the son of Julio Rocha of Dawson Tire in Gothenburg, Neb.

The scholarship winners were recognized at the Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony which was held on Monday, Nov. 2 at the Tropicana Las Vegas.
