Littlefield Discusses Right to Repair Legislation in Podcast

Roy Littlefield IV, TIA’s vice president of government affairs, called right to repair legislation the biggest issue right now for the Association in a November podcast interview by Tire Review magazine. To hear the entire podcast, CLICK HERE.

Featured in the magazine’s “What’s Treading with Tire Review” podcast, Littlefield said right to repair is an issue at the state and federal levels, “and that we really need action on both those levels.”

?Passage of right to repair legislation is important to tire dealers and vehicle owners “because it gives the right to connect, because we have all of this repair data now that is in the cloud,” Littlefield said. “If we don’t have access to that, we’re not going to be able to work on these vehicles. So, this bill really would provide some federal codification for allowing dealers to have the tools necessary to access that data.”

In the interview, Littlefield spoke about the status of right to repair legislation in Massachusetts, the drive to get the issue on the ballot in Maine, what’s happening federally on the issue and how the new Congress might view it.

He also addressed federal and state issues that are important to tire dealers today and going into 2023.

Marijuana in the Workforce

With many states legalizing marijuana for medical use and, in some cases, recreationally, what are employers to do when crafting drug-free policies and ensuring productive and safe workplaces?

Tire Industry Association benefits provider SESCO Management Consultants offers some guidance in a special report titled: “Marijuana at Work: What Employers Need to Know.”

SESCO points out that while there has been widespread legalization on the state level, marijuana remains an illegal drug on a federal basis.

“This places employers in a ‘no win’ situation in trying to balance federal and state laws as well as limiting liability associated with workplace liabilities, worker’s compensation and productivity/quality expectations,” SESCO said.

The report covers:

  • Marijuana – The Facts;
  • Best Practices for Employers – SESCO Staff Recommendations;
  • No-No’s for Employment Interviewing; and
  • SESCO’s Personnel File Documentation Checklist.
