Three Scholars Honored by Michelin and TIA

Bowie, Md. - The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is pleased to announce the recipients of the Michelin/TIA Scholarship Award for the 2016-2017 academic school year. This year, three students were selected for their academic and extracurricular achievements.

A total of $6,250 for college education was awarded to the three students: Trey Benton of Cerro Gordo, N.C., Devin Corrigan of King of Prussia, Pa. and Ashlyn Hebdon of Spring Creek, Nev.

Trey Benton graduated from West Columbus High School and is the son of Rick and Angie Benton of Black’s Tire Service, Inc. in Whiteville, N.C. He attends East Carolina University is majoring in accounting. Devin Corrigan, the daughter or Brian and Lynn Corrigan of Ardmore Tire, Inc. in Conshohocken, Pa., graduated from Archbishop John Carroll High School. She attends Temple University and hopes to become a physician’s assistant. Ashlyn Hebdon graduated from Spring Creek High School and is studying business administration at Stevens-Heganer College in Logan, Utah. She is the daughter of Chad Hebdon of Purcell Tire in Elko, Nev.

“With the rising cost of higher education, the importance of this scholarship program continues to grow. TIA is pleased to work alongside Michelin again this year to sponsor this initiative,” said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.  

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000 to either part-time employees or dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member tire dealers. Since inception, more than $256,000 has been awarded to 55 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools. Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.

The scholarship winners were recognized at the Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony which was held on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Tropicana Las Vegas.
