TIA Announces 2016 Commercial Tire Service Instructor Training Schedule

  • Release Date: December 15, 2015

Bowie, Md. – The Tire Industry Association (TIA) has announced the schedule for the 2016 Certified Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Instructor Training and Certification Classes in Baltimore and Denver.

TIA’s Certified CTS Instructor Program exceeds the minimum training requirements established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and includes all aspects of truck tire and wheel service including OSHA regulations, mounting/demounting/inflation, torque, puncture repair, balancing, road service and much more. The CTS Instructor Course is a train-the-trainer model that combines classroom and hands-on demonstrations, giving the students the tools and knowledge they will need to impart that information on their tire service technicians.

“Our train-the-trainer model gives dealers the flexibility to train one employee and then have that employee hold training classes for others at a time when it is most convenient. They can comply with OSHA regulations and establish a qualified workforce without the expense of extensive travel,” said TIA Senior Vice President of Training Kevin Rohlwing.

TIA offers both a 4-day and a 3-day program. The 4-day students arrive on Tuesday and participate in one full day of hands-on training. Each student will physically demount, mount, install, remove and repair a tubeless truck tire. On Wednesday, the 4-day students join the 3-day students for classroom instruction and hands-on demonstrations. Participants with less than two years of hands-on commercial truck tire experience must register for the 4-day class. Those with more than two years of experience may register for either class option.

Baltimore classes are held at the Community College of Baltimore County in Catonsville, Md. and Denver classes are held at Lincoln College of Technology in Aurora, Co. TIA has negotiated special hotel rates in both cities that include shuttle service to and from the airports and the colleges, eliminating the need for rental cars.
