TIA Announces the 2017 Michelin Scholarship Award Recipients

(Bowie, MD-11/1/2017) – The Tire Industry Association, a leader in tire safety, is pleased to announce the recipients of the Michelin/TIA Scholarship Award for the 2017-2018 academic school year. This year, three high school students were selected based on their academic and extracurricular achievements.

A total of $6,250 was awarded to three scholars to support the costs of college tuition, books, fees, and room and board. The three recipients are; Taylor Kosar of Centreville, MD; Julyssa Rocha of Gothenburg, NE; and Mariah Weiss of Durand, WI.

  • Taylor Kosar is a graduate of Old Mill High School in Millersville, MD and plans to study Nursing at Salisbury University. Taylor's mother is Crystal Cramer and she is employed with Service Tire Truck Center in Baltimore, MD.
  • Julyssa Rocha is a graduate of Gothenburg High School in Gothenburg, NE and plans to study Neuroscience with a minor in Psychology at Creighton University. Julyssa's father is Julio Rocha and he is employed with Dawson Tire in Gothenburg, NE.
  • Mariah Weiss is a graduate of Durand High School in Durand, WI and plans to study Animal Science / Pre-Veterinary Medicine at University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Mariah's father is Mark Weiss and he is employed with Bauer Built Inc. in Durand, WI.

“We are excited to recognize and award our new scholarship recipients this year,” said Roy Littlefield, executive vice president of Tire Industry Association. “Each scholar has demonstrated their unwavering commitment to academic achievement and we are honored to support them in their pursuit of higher education.”

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000 to either part-time employees or dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member tire dealers. Since inception, more than $256,000 has been awarded to 55 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools. Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.

Each scholarship winner was recognized during the 9th annual Tire Industry Awards Ceremony on Monday, October 30th at Paris Las Vegas Hotel.
