TIA Mourns the Loss of Bruce Halle, Founder and Chairman of Discount Tire

(Bowie, MD) – The Tire Industry Association (TIA), a leader in tire safety, remembers Bruce Halle, founder and chairman of Discount Tire and the Tire Industry’s 2012 Hall of Fame recipient. Bruce passed away in his sleep on Thursday, January 4. He was 87 years old.

Bruce Halle founded the first Discount Tire Store in Ann Arbor, Michigan and grew the business to more than 900 locations in 29 states with more than 18,000 employees nationwide. Bruce was respected for his many philanthropic efforts and was listed by Forbes magazine as Arizona’s wealthiest individual for the past eight years.

In 2002, Bruce and his wife Diane founded the Diane & Bruce Halle Foundation in Arizona that serves as a philanthropic resource for a broad range of charitable endeavors including; The Bruce T. Halle Scholarship Program that has issued over $8.5 million in award money, and The Bridges to Hope Corporate Philanthropy Program that provides social and economic assistance to nonprofit organizations.

Bruce was inducted into the Tire Industry’s 2012 Hall of Fame at the Global Tire Expo in November 2012. He was recognized and honored for his outstanding leadership and contributions within the tire industry.

“It is with great sadness to hear of the passing of Bruce Halle,” said Roy Littlefield, TIA executive vice president. “For many years Bruce has been a major key player in the industry and has set the bar high as a selfless leader and passionate philanthropist. He has truly touched the lives of so many people and will be incredibly missed.”

Bruce is survived by his wife Diane; son Bruce Halle Jr. (Nikki); daughters Susan Lyle (Wilson), Lisa Pedersen (Chris) and Mr. Zuieback (Sheila); siblings Bob Halle (Nancy), Mary Ellen Merrill and Betty Lou Halle; and seven grandchildren.
