LAS VEGAS — The Tire Industry Association (TIA) and Michelin North America Inc. scholarship program, now in its 19th year, has selected three students of employees of TIA-affiliated companies as 2019 award recipients.
The three high school students — Alexandra (Alee) Chrisman of Dandridge, Tenn.; Savannah Lampley of Rockingham, N.C.; and Lindsey Lovvorn of Chelsea, Ala. — will share $6,250 in scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year.
Tony Mougios, Michelin’s vice president sales of Canada, announced the 2019 Michelin/TIA scholarship winners at the Tire Industry Honors evening Nov. 4 prior to the start of the Global Tire Expo/SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The three were selected based on their academic and extracurricular achievements. The scholarship money can be used to support the costs of college tuition, fees and books.
Chrisman is a graduate of Cocke County High School in Newport and plans to study business and finance at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville in Knoxville, Tenn. Her father, Craig Chrisman, is employed by Westgate Tire in Newport.
Lampley is a graduate of Richmond Senior High School in Rockingham and plans to study biology at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington, in Wilmington, N.C. Her father, Danny Lampley, is employed by Snider Fleet Solutions in Rockingham.
Lovvorn is a graduate of Briarwood Christian High School in Birmingham, Ala., and plans to study interior design at Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. Her father, Jimmy Lovvorn, is employed by Havoline Xpress Lube & Tire Pros in Greystone, Ala.
"Each year we are honored to recognize hard-working high school students who have demonstrated stellar academic achievement," TIA CEO Roy Littlefield said. "We appreciate working with Michelin to provide this scholarship assistance to the children of parents working in the tire industry.”
The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000 to either part-time employees or dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member tire dealers. Since its inception, the program has awarded $485,000 in scholarships to a total of 66 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools. Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.
