Former Modern Tire Dealer Editor Lloyd Stoyer Dies

UNIONTOWN, Ohio – Lloyd Stoyer, former editor of Modern Tire Dealer magazine and a member of the Tire Industry Hall of Fame, died March 1, 2020. He was 91.

Stoyer served as editor of Modern Tire Dealer from 1986 – 2000, following a long journalism and communications career that included 15 years at the Akron Beacon Journal, where he worked as a reporter, Sunday editor and assistant managing editor. He also edited The County Press in Lapeer, Mich. and the Niles Times in Ohio, and its six weekly suburban newspapers.

In addition to working in newspapers, Stoyer served as public relations director of the former Republic Steel’s five plants in Stark County, among other communication positions.

In 2000, Stoyer was inducted into the Tire Industry Association’s Tire Industry Hall of Fame.

“In his role as editor of Modern Tire Dealer, Lloyd was an influential force in reporting on and speaking out on behalf of independent tire dealers,” said TIA CEO Roy Littlefield. “All of us at TIA are saddened by his passing.”

Stoyer was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Faye. Survivors include their two children, Jerry Stoyer of Sachse, Texas, and Judy Stoecklin (and her partner, Stuart McDonald), of Sanbornton, N.H.; brother Lyn Stoyer and his wife, Dorothy; and grandsons Spencer Stoyer and Seth Stoyer.
