Third Week of TIA Training Webinars on Tire Balance

  • Release Date: May 26, 2020

BOWIE, Md. – The Tire Industry Association’s (TIA) third week of free Automotive Tire Service (ATS) webinars will focus on the topic of Tire Balance. These sessions, which allow attendees to preview TIA’s highly regarded training program, will take place three times daily from Tuesday, June 2 through Thursday, June 4, 2020. Registration for week three is now open at https://www.tireindustry.org/automotive-tire-service-webinars.

TIA is presenting six consecutive weeks of free online video-conference webinars focused each week on different aspects of tire service training for passenger and light truck tire service technicians.

The third webinar in the series, Tire Balance, will focus on centering the assembly on the balancer, selecting and positioning the correct wheel weight and how the tire mounting/inflation process can affect concentric seating and the uniformity of the tire and wheel.

“Tire balance is a lot more than just adding weights until the machine says the tire is balanced,” said Kevin Rohlwing, TIA senior vice president of training. “There are key components to uniformity that must be in place in order minimize any ride disturbance or vibration related to the tire and wheel assembly. This webinar will cover the steps that technicians must take to properly balance a passenger or light truck tire.”

The 30-minute webinars will take place three times each day at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. (all times EDT). A TIA staff instructor will be available for additional questions after class. The second topic covered during the week of May 25 is Demounting, Mounting and Inflation. Interested techs still have time to register for that class.

The remainder of the ATS training webinars are as follows:

Week 4 (June 9-11) – Wheel Torque
Week 5 (June 16-18) – Tire Repair
Week 6 (June 23-25) – TPMS Service

Technicians can attend as many or as few webinars as they would like at no charge. More information and registration instructions can be found at www.tireindustry.org/automotive-tire-service-webinars. For questions, contact training@tireindustry.org.
