  • Release Date: June 30, 2021

BOWIE, Md. – The Tire Industry Association (TIA) will offer in-person Certified Instructor Automotive Tire Service (ATS) classes in three cities during 2021, with the first class scheduled for Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 in Baltimore.

Certified ATS is a 400-level certification program that provides in-depth and comprehensive instruction on the recommended procedures for servicing modern automobile and light truck tires. The program is designed for the professional passenger and light truck tire technician, with subjects ranging from the relationship between torque and clamping force to Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) relearn procedures on domestic and import vehicles.

The four-day class includes an exclusive module on Tire Conditions Analysis that uses images from TIA’s Passenger and Light Truck Tire Conditions Manual to educate technicians on the most likely reasons for common irregular treadwear patterns.

Those who pass the class will be certified as Advanced ATS Instructors.

Additional 400-Level ATS Instructor classes have been scheduled in Los Angeles (Nov. 16-19) and Charlotte, N.C., (December; dates TBD).

“The Automotive Tire Service (ATS) Certified Instructor Training Tour is returning with the continued emphasis on hands-on instruction and demonstration,” said Kevin Rohlwing, senior vice president of training. “Certified ATS is definitely a hands-on program where the instructors and technicians must demonstrate the necessary skills to service passenger and light truck tires. Now that the community and technical colleges are starting to open up to outside groups, we can continue our efforts to bring this important training to retailers across the country and raise the level of professionalism in the industry.”
