TIA, MOHR Add Commercial Leadership Class

  • Release Date: July 22, 2021

BOWIE, Md. – Buoyed by the success of their popular virtual Retail Tire Store Leadership (vRTSL) class, the Tire Industry Association (TIA) and MOHR Retail have launched a similar program geared toward helping commercial tire store managers develop the interpersonal skills needed to create connections, coach and retain successful associates.

“After some commercial members attended the retail leadership class, they commented that a similar program directed at the challenges faced in a commercial environment would be very helpful,” said Kevin Rohlwing, senior vice president of training. “TIA immediately worked with MOHR Retail to replace the exercises for teaching leadership skills with examples typically found in the commercial tire industry, like managing multiple sales and service personnel who are not in the building on a regular basis. These commercial scenarios will make it much more valuable to people who are managing a commercial tire service facility.”

The new virtual Commercial Tire Store Leadership (vCTSL) course will deliver practical techniques drawn from national research to help store managers, assistants and leaders keep their teams engaged, inspired and productive. The class will cover: Role of the Leader; Discovering Your Leadership Style; Communication Skills; Setting Performance Expectations; Improving Below-Standard Performance; Effective Floor and Field Supervision; and Coaching in Real Time.

The first vCTSL class, offered Sept. 13 to Oct. 6, will consist of eight two-hour virtual Zoom meetings from 10 a.m. to noon (EST) on Mondays and Wednesdays. Class size is limited to 16 people, with a minimum of nine. Students who attend all eight sessions and do the pre-work will receive a completion certificate.

The cost is $750 per student, including virtual facilitation, a Disc® assessment and a 90-day post-training microlearning app.

Glen Nicholson, a former automotive service technician, tire store manager, district manager and past senior director of retail training for TBC Corp., will teach the class.
