  • Release Date: November 02, 2022

BOWIE, Md. – The Tire Industry Association (TIA) will update its Certified Automotive Tire Service (ATS) training program in 2023, including all modules on tire pressure monitoring systems.

The finished product, including videos and updated training manual, is scheduled to be released in 2024.

Certified ATS is the signature training and certification program for the passenger and light truck tire and wheel service industry. It includes in-depth information on every aspect of tire service including resources from the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI), U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and the Tire and Rim Association (TRA). Certified ATS also covers relearn procedures, service guidelines and basic diagnostics for tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS).

“Tire retailers who want to provide the most comprehensive training and certification have used the Certified ATS program to educate their technicians and recognize the top professionals in the industry,” said Kevin Rohlwing, chief technical officer for TIA. “Certified ATS is focused on the reasons why certain procedures and guidelines are in place to give technicians a deeper understanding of how they can maximize the safety and performance of passenger and light truck tires.”

Certified ATS uses the “train-the-trainer” approach so retailers can utilize their in-house expertise and experience to provide consistent high-level training for tire service professionals. The combination of in-depth classroom instruction and detailed hands-on demonstration creates an operational model that is focused on risk management by following industry recommended practices and guidelines.

Retailers who use the Certified ATS program to educate their technicians can limit their liability while providing their customers with the highest level of service in the industry.
