TIA Instructor Training Designed to Meet OSHA Safety Standards

  • Release Date: August 10, 2023

BOWIE, Md. – Tire technicians who take and pass the Tire Industry Association’s (TIA) 400-Level Certified Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Instructor training class are qualified to deliver OSHA compliance training to truck tire technicians.

“Credibility is everything when it comes to training,” said Kevin Rohlwing, TIA’s chief technical officer. “A TIA certified CTS instructor can help techs achieve federally required training because the TIA training program exceeds the minimum requirements of Occupational Health and Stafey (OSHA) Standard 29 CFR 1910.177 and provides important liability protection in the event of an accident.”

Tire technicians looking to become TIA training instructors or who just want to increase their knowledge and skill set can do so in the association’s next CTS instructor class Sept. 12 - 15 in Youngstown, Ohio. Techs are encouraged to sign up early as space is limited.

The four-day Certified CTS Instructor class covers all aspects of medium/heavy truck tire service and teaches attendees how to instruct a 300-Level Certified Technician Course in the field. Coursework consists of 18 modules, including OSHA requirements, wheel service and torque, single-piece and multi-piece rim demounting, mounting and inflation, charts and tables.

An optional early session on the first day will be offered where students with fewer than two years of experience servicing truck tires will physically mount and demount a tire, as well as install and remove a wheel assembly from a commercial truck using impact and torque wrenches. There is no additional charge for this session.

Students who successfully pass the course will receive a Certificate and 13 Uniform Patches. Recertification is required every two years via an online exam.

Course tuition is $950. The tuition does not include travel or hotel accommodations.

Additional courses will take place Oct. 17-20 in Louisville, Ky., and Dec. 5-8 in Brooksville, Fla.
